Goals

Our project consisted in developing a particular suspension system, named Pro-Link, for a race motorbike which will participate in the SuperTwins 2011 Championship.
This system is composed by the shock absorber and two rods and its purpose, compared to the classic suspension system linked to the rear swing arm and the frame, is to linearize the compression of the shock absorber in all its entire range of motion.

We had several constraints to respect:

  • All the attachment point to the frame and the swing arm are given and fixed.
  • The distance between the two bearings of the shock absorber should be 305 mm +/- 5 mm of regulation.
  • A movement of the swing arm of 120 mm from the ground should compress the shock absorber at max of 70 mm.
  • The ratio between the movement of the swing arm and the compression of the shock absorber should be around 2 – 2.1 in the biggest possible around of the equilibrium position.
  • The push rod must lie on a plane 50 mm shifted from the middle plane of the motorbike and it must be in the opposite side of the bike with respect to the chain.
  • Moreover the push rod should be adjustable in order to increase the sitting position of 12 mm (from 820 mm to 832 mm), for that purpose we will use a threaded rod with both right handed and left handed thread.
