During the initial stage of the project we created a list of requirements, to be respected during the design process. These requirements must be interpreted as bonds on the final product, in order to guarantee a good result.

1. The device must be unable to be locked without the use of its own pin.
The fundamental priority during the design process must be the solving of the main problem, without that, the entire project is meaningless.
2. The device must respect the CEI 60335-1 standards about the safety of the household electrical appliances.
For this mechanism it has been referred to the standard sub-section relative to mechanical safety (there are no electric/electronic elements). According to the standard, all the coverings that prevent access to live electrical or moving parts are expected not to exhibit an evident failure if loaded with a 50 N force for 10 s.
Being a dryer door subjected to this standard (it actually prevent access to a moving part), the minimum opening force of the doorlock must be higher than 50 N. However, it has been decided to adopt an appropriate safety margin and to design the mechanism in order to have a minimum opening force between 55 N and 65 N.
3. The external size of the device must be the same of the current one
The device must respect the structural constrains of the dryer, so it must have the same external dimensions of the actual one.
4. The fixing system of the device must be the same of the current one.
It is not possible to modify the dryer, which is the reason why the fixing system cannot be modified in the new product.
5. The cost of the device must be less than, or equal to, 0.20 €.
In order to be competitive in the market, the production cost cannot be higher than that.
6. It’s possible to change the dimensions of the pin, but not more than 10 % respect to the current ones.
Rold group is not the producer of the pin. So, to avoid the design of an eventual new pin, it is not allowed to change much the actual one.

The best option remains the use of the actual component.
2. Device made of three components: blocking cam, support, spring.
Indeed, adding new parts could create problems in the production and in the assembly stage, given the small size of the device.
3. The cost of the device must be less than, or equal to, the actual one.
The ideal option is to obtain an innovative device without bigger cost. In this way, thanks to the combination of saving money and functionality, it’s not unrealistic thinking to can enter in the market with a winning product.
In addition, we produced a list of desires too, to ensure a higher quality of the product.
